INCI name: Benzalkonium chloride.
Function: Antimicrobial, antistatic, preservative, deodorant, surfactant, dispersion of agents on surfaces.
Origin: Synthetic.
Concentration allowed by European regulations : Up to 3% in finished cosmetic products as an active ingredient. Up to 0.1% in finished cosmetic products as a preservative. In the finished product, the concentrations of benzalkonium chloride, benzalkonium bromide, and benzalkonium saccharinate—with alkyl chain lengths of C14 or shorter—must not exceed 0.1%.
Where to find it / them? : Baby wipes, deodorants, styling creams/lotions, setting waxes, hair sprays, shower gels, facial creams, bar soaps, facial cleansers, makeup removers, hand creams, exfoliators, foundations, hair serums, facial serums, toners.
