INCI name: Stearalkonium Chloride

Function: Antistatic, preservative, surfactant.

Origin: Animal, synthetic.

Concentration allowed by European regulations : Up to 3% (as benzalkonium chloride) in finished cosmetic products as an active. Up to 0.1% (as benzalkonium chloride) in finished cosmetic products as a preservative. In the finished product, the concentrations of benzalkonium chloride, bromide and saccharinate, whose alkyl chain is equal to or less than C14, must not exceed 0.1% (expressed as benzalkonium chloride).

Where to find it / them? : Conditioners, hair masks.

Risks to health: Potential skin and eye irritant (low).

Risks to the environment : Aquatic ecotoxicity.
