Properties

  • Antibacterial: Combating the proliferation of Propionibacterium acnes, which helps to reduce acne;

  • Anti-inflammatory: Regulating the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and certain enzymes, whose activity increases during an inflammatory response, by ginsenosides to soothe inflamed skin;

  • Antioxidant: Neutralizing the free radicals generated by external aggressions (sun, pollution, tobacco, etc.) thanks to the ginsenosides it contains, thereby limiting their impact on skin cells;

  • Depigmenting: Inhibiting the melanogenesis process through the activity of the transcription factor FOXO3a by syringaresinols, thereby reducing the appearance of brown spots;

  • Moisturizing: Forming a film on the surface of the epidermis using polysaccharides to restore the skin's protective barrier and thus maintain its hydration;

  • Protector, firming: Inhibit the expression of matrix metalloproteinases-1 (MMP-1), enzymes that degrade collagen.

  • Regenerating: Stimulating collagen production due to the presence of ginsenosides, promoting tissue regeneration.

Discovered over 4,000 years ago in Asia, ginseng is a plant that has long been used in Chinese medicine for its invigorating, fatigue-fighting, and stimulating properties. Its name means "man root," referring to the roots that grow in the shape of a man. Indeed, an aged root can take on an anthropomorphic appearance, resembling a trunk with two arms and two legs. There are several varieties of ginseng, including Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer, which is the most well-known and widely marketed. It originates from the forested mountains of Manchuria and North Korea. This variety is the one used in cosmetics. Also known as Asian ginseng, it can be either red or white.
