Profile: Nummular Psoriasis
Definition:
Nummular psoriasis is a form of psoriasis characterized by the appearance of small, discoid red lesions a few centimeters in diameter, whose size and shape resemble coins, hence the term "nummular", often associated with intense itching. These plaques can be located in various parts of the body (legs, arms, etc.). The round shape of the plaques in nummular psoriasis can suggest certain fungal infections (such as dermatophytosis) or nummular eczema.
Internal and external causes:
Immune system failure.
How to reduce or eliminate:
Prescription of local corticosteroid treatments (cream, ointment, lotion) to be combined with the daily application of moisturizing cream; use of care products with keratolytic active ingredients; phototherapy; intake of anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, and immunosuppressive agents (acitretin, methotrexate, cyclosporine, etc.).
