Palmarosa Essential Oil

Commonly known as: Cymbopogon Martini (Palmarosa) Oil (I.N.C.I.), Indian Geranium.

Botanical name: Cymbopogon martinii.

Extraction process: Distillation by steam stripping.

Family: Poaceae.

Part of the plant extracted: Aerial parts.

Location: Originally from India and Vietnam, it is now cultivated in Africa (especially in Madagascar) and Australia.

Flowering: August - September.

Provenance, origin: India.

Phytochemical composition: Geraniol, geranyl acetate, linalool, caryophyllene, farnesol, limonene, geranyl hexanoate, geranial, nerol, neral, myrcene, estragole, ocimene.

Sensorial properties: Appearance: Mobile and clear liquid; Color: Pale yellow to yellow; Scent: Sweet dewy with a herbaceous, floral note.

Physical characteristics: Density: 0.880 - 0.884 g/cm3; Insoluble in water; Refractive index: 1.471 - 1.478.

Benefits: Purifying, sanitizing, astringent, toning, anti-bacterial, regenerating.

Method of Preservation

Store in an amber glass bottle, protected from heat and direct sunlight.

Contraindications, Usage Precautions

The essential oil of palmarosa has the potential to cause allergies. It should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women, as well as children. Do not apply the pure essential oil directly to the skin or mucous membranes. Essential oils should not be applied to the eyes, the area around the eyes, or inside the ears.

Note : This essential oil is particularly not recommended for pregnant women, as it can induce labor.

Palmarosa is a member of the large lemongrass family. Due to its sweet fragrance, similar to that of geranium, it is sometimes referred to as "Indian geranium". When applied topically, palmarosa essential oil is invigorating and contributes to skin regeneration. It is also found in many deodorants for its scent and antibacterial activity.
