Which Mask Is Best for Brittle and Damaged Hair?

Deprived of its former splendor, your hair is brittle, weakened and damaged. But before you think about cutting your hair, you can use an appropriate hair mask.

Why Does Hair Sometimes Become Brittle?

Brittle and fragile hair is hair that has aged prematurely and has lost its elasticity and strength. As a result, the hair fiber is less resistant and breaks at the slightest aggression, sometimes even at the root. Brittle and fragile hair is difficult to handle and style. Prone to frizz, it is forked and reflects a "straw" appearance. It also hinders the growth of healthy hair, giving the impression that the hair is sparse or that growth is slow or non-existent.

Several factors can cause damaged and brittle hair fibers.

  • Internal causes such as stress or vitamin and mineral deficiencies;

External causes such as excessive use of heating appliances (hair dryer, straightener, curler), repeated coloring and bleaching, prolonged exposure to the sun, use of shampoos rich in sulfates, excessive use of styling products (lacquers, gel, waxes), climatic conditions (wind, winter, cold), pollution, overexposure to chlorine from the pool or salt from the sea, smoking...

Hair Mask: What are the Benefits for Brittle Hair?

While shampoos only remove impurities from the hair and scalp, and conditioners make detangling easier, masks work in depth. These concentrated, rich treatments are designed to address specific hair problems.

To target brittle and damaged hair, choose certain ingredients in your hair mask.

  • Plant keratin or phytokeratin

This compound derived from wheat, soy and corn proteins is rich in sulfur-containing amino acids. It fills the gaps in the hair fiber and rebuilds its architecture. As a reminder, keratin, a fibrous protein rich in sulfur, is the main constituent of hair. It is thanks to the organization of keratin in the cortex that the hair has the property of being resistant. If the scalp were strong enough, a normal head of hair with 120,000 hairs could support a weight of 12 tons!

  • Nourishing natural fats

Rich in fatty acids, these compounds help compensate for the lack of sebum characteristic of dry hair. Among the most effective are avocado, coconut, argan, pequi, acai, castor, jojoba and shea and mango butters.

  • Repairing and lipid-replenishing active ingredients

Some active ingredients have the ability to insert themselves into the lipidic structure of the hair fiber and thus restore the cohesion of the cuticle. The cracks also called "scales" are filled, the cuticle is smoothed and the cortex better protected. Squalane and biomimetic ceramides, for example, are two active ingredients that act as such and are described as "relipidants".

In general, masks for brittle and damaged hair should be applied only to the lengths and ends, so as not to weigh down the roots. They are applied to damp hair, after shampooing and conditioning, on a weekly basis. The application time varies according to the product, so please respect the time indicated on your treatment to obtain results.

Typology Biomimetic Ceramides + Avocado Oil Repair Mask

Formulated without silicones and composed of 98% of natural ingredients, this repairing and nourishing mask repairs the hair fiber in depth and prevents the appearance of split ends. Bringing suppleness and shine to the hair, it also softens the hair and prevents knots. Its action is based on the synergy of 3 natural active ingredients:

  • Biomimetic ceramides: they act as a bonding agent to fill the hair scales, smooth the hair cuticle and restructure the hair fiber. The hair is then protected against external aggressions.

  • Mango butter: packed with oleic and stearic acids, it repairs hair, restoring its suppleness and shine and preventing the appearance of split ends.

  • Avocado oil: also rich in fatty acids, it has a much lighter texture than other vegetable oils and deeply nourishes the hair without weighing it down.

This mask is suitable for all hair types but is particularly recommended for dry, damaged and brittle hair. For these concerns, we recommend using it in addition to the nourishing shampoo with biolipid complex.
