Skin aging, an inevitable phenomenon that can be delayed.

Skin aging is an inevitable phenomenon. The main causes are a decrease in the rate of cell renewal, a change in the composition of the dermis and the molecules that make it up (hyaluronic acid, collagen, elastin...), and the loss of fatty and muscular tissue which no longer plays its supportive role.

An unhealthy lifestyle can also accelerate this process (poor diet, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, sun exposure, stress, lack of sleep...). In response to this, fine lines deepen, the skin becomes drier, pigment spots may appear, as well as dilated vessels. Additionally, the epidermis changes, it thickens or thins depending on the individual.

It is possible to enhance one's lifestyle to slow down skin aging and/or adapt one's skincare routine accordingly. Thus, ferulic acid is an excellent ally in preventing the appearance of aging signs.

Ferulic acid, an ally in combating skin aging.

Ferulic acid is a renowned active ingredient in cosmetic applications for effectively combating skin aging. Its mode of action is based on two essential functions.

  • Free radicals are unstable molecules generated by a variety of factors (pollution, cigarette smoke, stress, etc.). Composed of a single electron, they are highly reactive and attack the healthy cells and proteins of the skin, accelerating its aging process. The hydroxy and phenoxy groups of ferulic acid donate electrons to neutralize free radicals by making them more stable and therefore less reactive. Thus, this active ingredient delays skin aging and protects the skin from external aggressions.

  • Preventing the appearance of brown spots:

Several studies have demonstrated the lightening power of ferulic acid. Its chemical structure is similar to that of tyrosine, the amino acid that controls the synthesis of melanin. Thus, ferulic acid blocks the formation of melanin by competitively inhibiting tyrosine, thereby reducing the phenomenon of hyperpigmentation that frequently appears with age.
