OUR POLICY ON SPF
SPF is an essential daily step of any complete skincare routine.
As a French brand, we develop sun protection under stringent European Union guidelines that ban over 1,300 unsafe ingredients.
However, due to regulations on certain UV filters, we are unable to sell suncare in the United States, with the exception of our 100% mineral SPF 30 Urban Shield Serum with 1% resveratrol and polysaccharides.
We are currently developing new SPF products in accordance with the FDA regulations to be able to better serve our U.S.-based customers.
In the meantime, our 100% mineral SPF 30 Urban Shield Serum delivers daily sun protection and antioxidant support against polluted environments.
What is the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen?
Mineral and chemical sunscreens both offer protection against the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation, but they work in different ways.
Mineral sunscreens create a physical barrier that reflects the UV rays. They are made of active mineral ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. They typically provide broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays.Chemical sunscreens contain organic compounds that work by absorbing UV radiation and converting it into heat, which is then released from the skin. Chemical sunscreens also typically provide broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays.
What is the difference between the U.S. and E.U. regulations?
The difference between U.S. and EU regulations on SPF revolves around testing standards, labeling requirements, and permitted ingredients.
In the U.S., SPF primarily measures protection against UVB rays, while the EU mandates testing for both UVB and UVA protection. EU regulations are generally more comprehensive, covering a broader spectrum of protection and stricter ingredient standards.
While the U.S. allows a wider range of sunscreen ingredients, the EU emphasizes safety and efficacy testing, which may result in differences in permitted ingredients between the regions.
Why do we include certain filters that are not allowed in the U.S.?
Differences in regulatory standards and approval processes between the European Union (EU) and the United States contribute to variations in permitted sunscreen filters. The EU's precautionary approach allows for a broader range of sunscreen ingredients, while the US FDA requires extensive testing and data submission, leading to slower approvals. These regulatory disparities stem from differing priorities, scientific assessments, and historical precedents in each region.
Do you have any SPF available for U.S. customers?
Yes, our SPF 30 Urban Shield Serum provides daily protection against UVA/UVB rays and pollution to prevent premature skin aging. It is formulated with 100% mineral UV filters that form a protective shield against pollution and sun.
