Excess Alcohol for Hair: The Impact and Care Regimen.

Light to moderate alcohol consumption barely has harmful effects on the body. However, when consumed excessively or regularly, it can be deleterious to the body in general, and bad for the hair, too. Alcohol for Hair: Is it Bad?

Regular, excessive alcohol consumption attacks the liver, causing it to malfunction in terms of assimilating necessary nutrients. It also causes deficiencies (iron, zinc, vitamin B12, etc.), slows protein synthesis and dehydrates the body, all of which have an impact on hair. As a result, alcohol abuse can lead to dry, brittle hair falling out and a delayed regrowth. It's important to point out that alcohol and hair loss (alopecia) are not directly linked, but alcohol leads to other disturbances in the body that can cause thinning or loss.

Note: Alcohol consumption is considered excessive when it exceeds 2 glasses per day or 10 glasses per week, and the WHO recommends at least one day of abstinence per week.

What Hair Care Routine Is Best After a Night Out?

Generally speaking, after a night of drinking, hair looks dull and dry. The first step in bringing shine and nutrition to your hair can be to apply an avocado oil mask. Due to its biochemical composition, this natural ingredient will restore cohesion to the scales that make up the hair cuticle. To do so, apply the oil to your lengths, then hold your hair in a warm towel, preferably for an hour. Rinse with water and shampoo as usual. At Typology, we've developed three shampoos to address a range of hair issues.

  • Nutrition shampoo with biolipid complex 1% + Camellia oil deeply repairs and nourishes the hair fiber, smoothing and filling the hair scales. It is particularly recommended for dry and damaged hair, as well as curly and frizzy hair.

  • Volume Shampoo with almond Protein 1% + fortifies and coats the hair fiber to provide structure and volume. It is particularly recommended for fine hair lacking density.

  • Anti-dandruff shampoo with piroctone olamine 1% + jujube extract reduces dandruff proliferation, regulates flaking and calms scalp irritation.

If you haven't made an avocado oil pre-mask, an alternative is to apply a nourishing mask just after shampooing, like our biomimetic ceramides 0.3% + avocado oil repair mask. Formulated without silicones and made with 98% ingredients of natural origin, this nourishing mask repairs and fills hair scales, deeply nourishing the hair fiber. It adds shine and suppleness to hair.

If excessive consumption of alcohol for hair causes thinning or even abnormal, severe loss, apply one or two pipettes of our densifying scalp treatment  with peptides 2% + ginger extract to the entire dry scalp once a day, in the morning or evening. To see results, the course of treatment should last 12 weeks, and should be applied by massaging the scalp until completely absorbed. This treatment contains 2% pea peptides, rich in phytonutrients, notably isoflavones, which stimulate specific molecules in the dermal papilla that are essential for reactivating hair growth. A clinical study involving these peptides demonstrated an increase in the anagen/telogen coefficient (i.e., the ratio of active to degenerating follicles). The Hair life cycle is prolonged, and dry, brittle hair falling out is visibly denser within 3 months of treatment.
