How Long Does a Sun Tan Last?

How Long Does a Sun Tan Last?

The tanning process results in a tanned complexion, but only lasts for a short time. On average, how long does a tan last after sun exposure? Is there a way to make it last longer? Find here explanations on the tanning process, the effects on the skin and its duration.

Why Does the Skin Tan?

This natural process allows it to resist the harmful effects of the sun's UV rays. During exposure to the sun, to protect the skin, melanocytes produce melanin (the pigment that gives the skin its brown color) which migrates to the surface of the epidermis and colors it. This is tanning. If the exposure is too long and the UVB rays are too intense, the tan gives way to a sunburn.

UVB rays are particularly aggressive for the skin and are responsible for sunburn. UVA rays penetrate further than UVB rays and reach the dermis, the deep layer of the skin. They are the cause of “photoaging”.

How Long Does a Tan Last?

Generally, a tan fades between two and four weeks after the last exposure to the sun due to cell differentiation. This natural process is characterized by the maturation of epithelial cells that are loaded with keratin and end up with dead cells that make up the stratum corneum and are eventually shed. The keratinocytes are continuously renewed in a cycle of about 28 days. Thus, a tan does not last more than one month.

How to Keep Your Tan From Fading Quickly?

There are several simple things you can do to keep your tan looking good for as long-lasting as possible:

  • Just after exposure, use an after-sun treatment to relieve light burns while making the tan longer lasting.

You can apply the moisturizing gel with aloe vera and organic orange blossom for the face and body. It soothes the skin and moisturizes in depth.

  • Moisturizing is essential to promote a longer lasting sun tan and delay desquamation.

Choose a moisturizing cream according to the nature of your skin (dry, oily, normal...) and apply it daily morning and evening. For the face, you can use the moisturizing face cream with 9 ingredients. Enriched with hyaluronic acid and organic coconut oil, it is a minimalist formula that moisturizes and nourishes the epidermis. Its light, non-greasy texture is suitable for dry, normal and combination skin, even sensitive skin. For the body, opt for the 10-ingredient moisturizing body cream, which moisturizes all skin types, even sensitive ones.

  • Incorporate vitamin C into your beauty routine.

Its brightening power restores radiance and luminosity to the skin, while protecting it from the harmful effects of free radicals. For all skin types, the radiance serum is a solution to illuminate your complexion. Apply 3 to 4 drops morning and night to a clean, dry face. A course of treatment of about 4 weeks is recommended to obtain the desired result. If you wish to use a less concentrated formula, the antioxidant face cream is ideal. Apply a small amount of this cream morning and evening on your cleansed and dried face, after your usual serum. Massage gently in circular motions to complete the penetration.
