How are native peony cells obtained?

Valued for its sebum-regulating and mattifying properties in skincare, the peony is a perennial plant that comes in several varieties. We find it in the form of cellular extract, and here is the process of obtaining it.

Process of obtaining native peony cells.

The native peony cells are whole cells that are locally harvested from the plant. They are the result of an environmentally friendly and biodiversity-respecting biotechnological process that involves several steps:

  1. Selection of the Plant and Sampling : Taking a piece from the plant (leaves);

  2. Culture in vitro of the harvested plant piece: Successive transfers onto a fresh nutritive medium composed of water, minerals, sugar, and vitamins;

  3. Elicitation: Stimulation of cell culture through UV and visible light to produce metabolites (active molecules);

  4. Rinsing : Removal of all traces of the nutrient medium ;

  5. Cell Filtration ;

  6. Sonication of cells and dispersion of the extract in sunflower oil.

This extraction method allows for the preservation of all active molecules present in the plant cells, which gives this compound a complementary action against other plant extracts (vegetable oils, essential oils, and hydrosols).

The benefits of native peony cells on the skin.

These plant compounds are primarily recommended for regulating sebum secretion and matifying oily skin. They act on a key enzyme in the epidermis to limit the overproduction of sebum, the 5 alpha-reductase. This enzyme is responsible for the activity of testosterone, a hormone mainly involved in sebum production. For this reason, peony cell extract is included in our purifying botanical blend. This night serum helps to purify the skin thanks to the sebum-regulating and anti-inflammatory actions of 7 botanical extracts. Note, it is contraindicated for pregnant or breastfeeding women due to the presence of essential oil.

A few words about the peony.

A tuberous root plant, the officinal peony (Paeonia officinalis) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Paeoniaceae family, native to Central and Eastern Asia. It blooms in the spring and is relatively easy to cultivate. It thrives in deep, rich, humus-rich, and well-drained soils. Thus, it is often found growing wild in woods and meadows.

Highly renowned in China for many centuries, this flower with its numerous subspecies is the cause for grand events: floral exhibitions and shows take place throughout the country during its blooming period. Introduced to Europe at the end of the 18th century, it has become a greatly appreciated ornamental plant due to its many cultivars.
