Roman Chamomile Hydrosol

Commonly known as: Anthemis Nobilis Flower Water / Chamaemelum Nobilis Flower Water (I.N.C.I.), Chamomile floral water, Roman Chamomile, Anjou Chamomile, Fragrant Chamomile, Official Chamomile.

Botanical name: Chamaemelum nobilis (formerly known as: Anthemis nobilis).

Extraction process: Distillation by steam stripping.

Family: Asteraceae.

Part of the plant extracted: Flowers (more specifically, the floral capitulum).

Location: Originally from the Atlantic regions of Europe (Portugal, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Ireland) and North Africa (Morocco, Algeria). It was later introduced to Central and Eastern Europe, Australia and New Zealand, as well as certain regions of North America.

Flowering: From June to September.

Provenance, origin: France.

Phytochemical composition: Pinocarveol, pinocarvone, isopinocamphone, myrtenol, myrtenal, borneol, benzoic aldehyde, verbenone, alpha-terpineol, coumarins, phenolic acids (trans-caffeic acid, ferulic acid), sesquiterpene lactones (germacranolides, nobilin), flavonoids, polyacetylenic derivatives.

Sensorial properties: Appearance: Clear liquid; Color: Colorless to pale yellow; Scent: Strong floral.

Physical characteristics: pH: 5.5 to 7.0; Soluble in any aqueous environment; Density: 0.990 - 1.010.

Usage

Facial Care (face creams, after-shave lotions, makeup removers, face masks, refreshing lotions, eye contour fluids, tinted creams); Body Care (body creams, soothing after-sun milks, hand and foot creams, cleansing gels, scrubs, body creams, soaps); Hair Care (shampoos); Makeup (foundations).

Method of Preservation

Use within 6 months after opening. This product is quite sensitive, store it away from moisture, light, and temperature changes, at room temperature in a dry place. If you notice a change in appearance or smell, discontinue use of your hydrosol.

Contraindications, Usage Precautions

The hydrosol of Roman chamomile presents no contraindications. It can be used by pregnant and/or breastfeeding women, as well as children. There is a very rare risk of skin reactions. As a precaution, always remember to test a small amount of the product in the crook of your elbow. Avoid contact with the eyes.

Traditionally used for embalming the dead in Ancient Egypt, Roman chamomile was associated with the God Ra, as it symbolized the sun. Its name "Chamaemelum" comes from the Greek "khamai" for "on the ground" and "melon" for "apple" due to the apple-like scent that emanates from the ground after being stepped on, according to Pliny, while "nobile" derives from the Latin "nobilis" meaning "famous, noble". On the skin, the hydrosol of Roman chamomile has a soothing effect on delicate skin.
