Glycolic acid is a fruit acid with multiple virtues. Glycolic acid is known for its exfoliating properties and is used in the composition of numerous face care products. In which skin care products is glycolic acid found?
What products use glycolic acid?
Definition of Glycolic Acid
Glycolic acid is a carboxylic acid derived from sugars found in beets, grapes and sugar cane. It is the best known of the AHAs, notably for its ability to penetrate the skin easily and deeply due to its small size. This particularity allows it to effectively stimulate cellular activity. Thanks to its many virtues, it is a good ally for both skin and hair, and is therefore included in many skin care products. This active ingredient has many benefits:
It removes the layer of dead skin cells that dull the complexion and clog the pores, and thus stimulates cell renewal;
It helps to reduce fine lines and decrease the depth of wrinkles, in particular by increasing the production of collagen and the proliferation of fibroblasts;
It evens out the complexion by fading hyperpigmented areas (melasma, acne scars, age spots);
It helps to purify the skin by eliminating excess sebum and regulating its secretion;
It helps to treat skin imperfections, such as blackheads and inflammatory pimples;
It improves the degree of hydration of the skin and hair, and helps to bring shine to the hair.
Glycolic Acid: In Which Skin Care Products Can It Be Found?
Glycolic acid is used in the formulation of many skin care products: creams, masks, serums, tonic lotions, cleansing gels, shampoos. It can be found in purifying treatments for oily and blemished skin, as well as in lightening and unifying treatments. But it is particularly in peelings that we find glycolic acid. However, in cosmetic care products to be used at home, glycolic acid is present in more or less small quantities (between 1 and 10%) to offer you a gentle peeling without the need to go to the dermatologist.
At Typology, you can find glycolic acid in our exfoliating and astringent lotion for daily use, where it helps refine skin texture (tightening enlarged pores), gently remove dead skin for smoother, more even skin, and unclog pores to fight blackheads. You can also find it in our exfoliating serum formulated with 10% glycolic acid. No rinsing required. This care is intended to increase the brightness of the complexion, to dislodge the surplus of sebum at the origin of the formations of the blackheads. Our exfoliating night cream also contains glycolic acid in association with mandelic acid. It eliminates dead skin. The presence of blackheads and pore dilation is reduced day after day. Finally, our peeling mask, to be used once or twice a week, is composed of an exfoliating complex that refines the skin texture and evens out the complexion.
