Often exposed to external aggressions and particularly delicate, the lips require regular care to maintain their plump appearance and vitality. Thus, the application of a balm becomes necessary. The following question arises: what to choose between a lip balm and a tinted balm?

- Lip balm versus tinted balm.
Lip balm versus tinted balm.
Lip Balm: What is it?
Many factors can cause lip dryness: cold, dry air, humidity, sun, temperature changes, etc... Indeed, these factors gradually evaporate the water contained in the epidermal layers. Vulnerable and thin, the skin of the lips contains few sebaceous and sweat glands, thus lacking protection. They are therefore the first to show signs of dryness. Therefore, it is necessary to apply a moisturizing lip balm daily to have a silky and soft mouth. This is a moisturizing treatment whose main function is to create an occlusive layer on the surface of the lips to retain moisture and protect them from external aggressions.
Thus, this treatment serves as an ally against chapping and dryness. Colorless, a lip moisturizing balm can be applied both as a treatment and as a makeup base. As lipsticks tend to dry out the lips, especially those with a matte finish, consider applying a balm beforehand to protect them and thus avoid drying them out more than they already are. Lip balms can come in the form of a tube, pot, or stick. They are generally composed of waxes or vegetable butters for their protective and adhering effect on the lips, and vegetable oils for their nourishing properties.
Tinted Lip Balm: What is it?
The tinted lip balms are lip care products formulated with plant-based ingredients (castor oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, raspberry seed oil...). This combination of natural substances helps to repair your lips and protect them. Indeed, they have the same virtues as classic lip balms. However, tinted balms have the unique feature of subtly beautifying the lips thanks to the natural or synthetic pigments they contain. Indeed, in addition to protecting the lips from dryness, the colored balms deposit a subtle tinted veil on them. They are preferably used alone on a non-made-up mouth. Able to be used as both a treatment and makeup in place of lipstick, this 2-in-1 care gives a pretty natural tint to the lips. Ruby red, powdered pink, plum purple... there is a wide range of colors. Thanks to the hydrating agents it contains, this care gives a slight shine to the lips, without giving the same finish as a gloss.
Lip balm and tinted balm: which one to choose?
Choosing between a classic lip balm and a tinted lip balm depends on your preferences. These two products have the same benefits, except that the tinted lip balm also provides a layer of color to the lips. If you want to apply a skincare base for makeup, opt for a moisturizing lip balm. On the other hand, if you wish to acquire a 2-in-1 care, that is, to add a touch of color to your lips without going through the lipstick stage, while hydrating and nourishing them deeply at the same time, then choose the tinted lip balm.
When making your selection, the first thing you should do is check the ingredients. Whether you choose a classic lip balm or a tinted one, they should be made ofnatural agents: waxes, butters, or plant oils with protective, restorative, and nourishing properties. Moreover, these treatments should be free of silicones, chemical preservatives (BHA, BHT, synthetic hydrocarbons...) or products derived from petrochemicals or based on hydrocarbons. Indeed, considering that we ingest between 20 to 50 mg of lip products per day, it's better to avoid these "toxic" ingredients as much as possible, as they could potentially have harmful effects on the body.
Our 9-ingredient lip balm notably contains shea butter, castor oil, andsunflower seed oil. These active ingredients protect the lips against skin dryness, repair them, and deeply nourish them.
