Peony Benefits According to Your Skin Type.

Peony cell extract is derived from an environmentally friendly biotechnological process. Thanks to its regenerating, antioxidant and sebum-regulating properties, it can be used to care for several skin types. Here are some tips on how to use it according to your skin problems.

Peony in Cosmetics, Briefly Explained.

In Chinese culture considered the queen of flowers, the peony is a slow growing herbaceous plant that grows naturally in woods and meadows. Originally from Central and Eastern Asia, it was introduced in Europe at the end of the 18th century. Today, it is an ornamental plant very appreciated by its numerous cultivars.

In cosmetics, the peony is used in the form of cell extract also called native plant cells. These are derived from a biotechnological process that respects the environment and biodiversity. This technique aims at multiplying cells from plant stem cells in a controlled environment. This process allows preserving all the natural elements of the plant. Rich in essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals, the obtained plant cells thus have a great molecular richness which offers them a complementarity of action compared to other vegetable extracts (vegetable oils and essential oils).

Peony Benefits To Purify Oily Skin.

Oily skin with a tendency to acne tends to shine due to an overproduction of sebum (we speak of hyperseborrhea). As a reminder, sebum is produced by the sebaceous glands. At the end of their cycle, these cells disintegrate and empty their lipidic content (sebum), which rises to the surface of the skin along the hairs in the sebaceous hair ducts. The activity of the sebaceous glands is controlled by androgenic sex hormones of ovarian or testicular origin, in particular testosterone. In the sebocytes, this hormone is transformed by the enzyme 5-alpha reductase into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). After several biochemical reactions, sebum is produced. Thus, hyperseborrhea is due to an excessive secretion of androgens or to a high activity of 5-alpha reductase.

The peony cells limit the action of the 5-alpha reductase enzyme and thus regulate this hyperseborrhea process. For this reason, this plant-based active ingredient is recommended for oily skin and skin prone to imperfections. Typology purifying night serum contains approximately 375,000 native peony cells. This face serum helps purify the skin with the sebum-regulating and anti-inflammatory actions of 7 botanical extracts.

Peony Skincare for Dehydrated Skin.

The skin contains 60% to 80% water depending on age. The majority of this water is found in the dermis thanks to the proteoglycans and their humectant properties. The stratum corneum (the most superficial layer of the skin made up of dead cells) contains 13% to 15% of this water. The skin is said to be dehydrated when this percentage falls below 10%. The horny layer then becomes rough, brittle and loses its integrity. Fine lines may appear in certain areas of the face where the skin is thinner.

One of the peony benefits is that its stem cells reinforce the circulation and the retention of water in the epidermis. In fact, studies have shown their ability to limit transepidermal water loss and promote NMF content in the stratum corneum.

Peony Stem Cells To Soothe Sensitive Skin.

An inflammation and its diffusion involve chemical factors that are synthesized locally or in the state of inactive precursors. Among these pro-inflammatory compounds, interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a cytokine that regulates the activation, growth, and differentiation of lymphocytes. It belongs to the group of proteins that directs the secretion of antibodies to fight against extracellular pathogens.

When applied to the skin, peony extract of stem cells reduces the secretion of IL-6, thus reducing inflammation, the redness, and itching associated with it. This active ingredient is therefore suitable for fragile, sensitive, reactive or even atopic skin.

Peony Cell Extract To Prevent the Appearance of Signs of Aging.

This peony extract is also recognized for its antioxidant activity. When applied to the skin, it protects skin cells from the harmful effects of free radicals. As a reminder, free radicals are unstable and therefore very reactive molecules generated by various factors such as stress, tobacco, pollution, hormonal fluctuations… Their presence in large quantities in the body alters the viability of cells and accelerates the natural aging process.
