The tinted balm, an ally for dry lips.

Delicate and thin, the lips are particularly vulnerable to external aggressions. Yet, they are often exposed to them. Their dryness can be caused by numerous factors. To preserve their vitality and their plump appearance, they need regular care such as tinted balms. Focus.

Why do we get dry lips?

The lips are continually subjected to external aggressions (cold, sun exposure, dry air, pollution, wind, spicy foods, seawater, tobacco, moistening of the lips with saliva, the intake of certain medications, etc...). These factors lead to dry and damaged lips, not to mention that the skin of the lips has certain characteristics, which make it more sensitive to its environment:

  • The skin of the lips is 5 times thinner than that of the face;

  • The sebaceous and sweat glands are absent from the lips and therefore, the oily film is nonexistent. However, this film helps to prevent the skin of the lips from drying out;

  • The skin of the lips is devoid of melanin, which explains their vulnerability to UV rays;

  • They contain a large amount of collagen and elastin fibers, hence their volume.

  • The lips are composed of a significant amount of blood vessels, hence their rosy color.

All these characteristics contribute to the lips drying out more quickly and easily, and to their weakening, often resulting in chapping and a feeling of tightness. That's why it's important to take care of them every day and throughout the year, by applying a protective balm to limit daily dehydration and protect the skin from aggressions.

The colored lip balm as a solution.

To achieve beautiful, smooth, and supple lips, the only method is to daily apply a lip moisturizing balm. However, this care is often neglected in favor of lipstick, which in some cases can have a drying effect due to its lack of color. This is where the tinted balm comes into play. This lip makeup product is revolutionizing the world of cosmetics.

This product alone combines the pigments of a lipstick and the ingredients of a traditional lip care product for a beautifully natural finish. Thus, there's no longer a need to apply two different products to your lips or to choose lipstick at the expense of a moisturizing balm. Indeed, tinted balms help to repair, protect, hydrate, nourish, relieve feelings of tightness, and bring suppleness and softness to the lips, all while enhancing them with a touch of color. This comprehensive treatment thus allows you to highlight your lips and protect them at the same time.

At Typology, we have developed a range of tinted lip balms based on ingredients of natural origin. It notably contains hyaluronic acid for its hydrating properties, the raspberry seed oil for its nourishing and protective aspect, and peppermint macerate for its soothing and refreshing touch. Our tinted balm is available in 5 shades : rosy beige, powdered pink, plum violet, ruby red, and coral orange. This 2-in-1 treatment will thus enhance your lips while taking care of them.

How to have beautiful lips on a daily basis?

Beyond applying a protective lip care product several times a day, regardless of the season, there are a few habits to adopt or, conversely, to avoid on a daily basis:

  • Licking your lips supposedly to rehydrate them. Indeed, at first, saliva does provide hydration but it evaporates quickly, promoting dehydration and thus exacerbating the problem of dryness;

  • Forgetting to remove makeup from your lips before going to sleep. Indeed, lipstick will gradually dry out the mucous membranes and prevent skincare products from penetrating the skin to work effectively. Result : The next morning, you find yourself with a chapped mouth. To do this, apply a few drops of makeup remover on a cotton pad, place it at the corner of your lips and gently glide the cotton across your lips, being careful not to rub too hard, while the other hand holds the corner of your lips to avoid stretching the skin;

  • Even if they are unsightly or bothersome, it is crucial to avoid peeling off dead skin with your fingertips or teeth. You are more likely to contract an infection or end up with a swollen mouth;

  • Exfoliate your lips once a week with a fine-grain scrub to remove dead skin and thus properly hydrate your lips. Indeed, exfoliating your lips will allow for better absorption of the balm for optimal repairing effect.

  • Don't overuse matte lipstick, as it further dries out the lips and promotes the appearance of chapping;

  • Ensure throughout the day to drink enough water ;

  • Do not forget toapply a moisturizing and protective treatment to your lips before going to sleep to deeply nourish them throughout the night and thus wake up with soft and supple lips;

  • Avoid rinsing your mouth with hot water, as it can strip away the thin layer of oil that protects your lips;

  • Perform a specific hydrating mask for the lips once a week to prevent chapping and allow for deep hydration of the lip skin;

  • Opt for tinted balms over lipsticks, as they allow for the coloring of the lip skin, while simultaneously softening, hydrating, and protecting them;

  • Biting your lips, as this leads to the development of chapped lips;

  • Breathing through the mouth, as the air will further dry out the tissues ;

  • Limit sun exposure as much as possible. Otherwise, consider applying a lip balm with a UV protection factor.
