Thyme Linalool Essential Oil

Commonly known as:   Thymus Zygis Flower Oil (I.N.C.I.), Thyme flower essential oil, Spanish red thyme essential oil, Common thyme, cultivated thyme, Farigoule.

Botanical name:   Thymus zygis L.

Extraction process:   Steam distillation of the flowering tops.

Family:   Lamiaceae.

Extracted part of the plant:   Leaf and flowering tops.

Cultivation area, origin:   Native to the western Mediterranean basin (from Spain to Italy), now cultivated throughout the world.

Blooming:   From June to the end of September.

Origin, provenance:   Spain.

Phytochemical composition:   Monoterpenols (linalool, geraniol, terpinene-1-ol-4, terpineol, borneol, thymol), monoterpenes (α-thujene, γ-terpinene, para-cymene, limonene, terpinolene, sabinene, α-pinene, α-terpinene, camphene, β-pinene, myrcene, α-phellandrene, β-phellandrene, trans-thujanol-4), terpene ketones (camphor), terpene oxides (1,8-cineole), terpene esters (linalyl acetate, bornyl acetate), menthane monoterpenoids (trans-p-menth-2-en-1-ol), sesquiterpenes (β-caryophyllene, delta-germacrene), monoterpenoid phenols (carvacrol), monoterpenic aldehydes (geranial).

Sensory properties:   Appearance : Liquid ; Color : Pale yellow to orange ; Odor : Sweet, pleasant, linalool, flowery.

Physical properties:   Density : 0,872 - 0,885 g/cm3 ; Refractive index : 1,460 - 1,475.

Concerns:   Antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, purifying, perfuming.

Effect:   All skin types and particularly acne-prone skin and problem skin; All hair types.

Properties

Antibacterial, antiseptic: To prevent the proliferation of bacteria which is explained by its strong content in monoterpenic alcohols (linanool, terpinene-1-ol-4...) and in terpenic esters (linalyl acetate).

Use

  • Face care (serums, creams);

  • Body care (gels, balms, oils, scrubs)

  • Hair care (shampoos, conditioners, lotions).

Preservation

Keep away from light, and at a stable and moderate temperature.

Contra-Indications and Precautions

Potentially dermocaustic and irritant. Do not use for babies under 3 months and for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Some natural compounds contained in this essential oil such as linalool may present a risk of allergy in some sensitive individuals when the essential oil is incorporated into a cosmetic composition (according to the 7th Amendment of the European Directive on cosmetic products (2003/15/EC)).

As a general rule, always test the application of your product on the elbow at least 48 hours before use.
