What is a purifying mask composed of?

The purpose of purifying masks is to eliminate all impurities that accumulate on the skin's surface. To cleanse the face, this type of treatment is enriched with exfoliating, sebum-regulating, and sanitizing active ingredients. Discover the ingredients used to make purifying masks.

What is a purifying mask?

An ally for combination to oily skin, the purifying mask helps to absorb excess sebum, which is responsible for shiny skin, the appearance of blackheads, and enlarged pores. This type of treatment works by smoothing the skin, mattifying it, and eliminating all impurities on its surface. This allows for deep cleansing of the skin, improving its appearance, and preventing the onset of pimples.

The T-zone of combination and oily skin, even those prone to blemishes, requires a specific "purification" process. This is due to the fact that this area exhibits higher sebum levels. To target this specific zone, it's crucial to select suitable purifying products to eliminate excess sebum and impurities, while maintaining the skin's balance.A purifying mask should be appliedonce or twice a weekto cleanse the skin and prevent blemishes.

What can we find in a purifying mask?

The primary function of a purifying mask is to absorb excess sebum in order to reduce shiny areas and imperfections. Therefore, certain components are essential in the composition of a purifying mask, particularly absorbent active ingredients such as charcoal or clay, which are compounds porous enough to absorb excess sebum. These masks also include emollients, often vegetable oils, which soften and make the skin more supple to prevent it from drying out.

Typically, purifying masks have a consistent, gel-like texture. This characteristic is imparted to the product through texturizing or gelling agents which are most often polymers (ex : xanthan gum, sclerotium gum, etc.). They have the property of giving the product consistency by increasing its viscosity. There are also pH regulators (ex : calcium carbonate, etc.) used to stabilize the preparation and adjust the pH of the mask to match that of the skin.

A purifying mask also contains humectant compounds (pentylene glycol, glycerin, etc). The humectant nature of an ingredient is based on its ability to retain water molecules due to its hygroscopic power. These compounds help maintain the fluidity of the mask.

Furthermore, a purifying mask is composed of an aqueous phase (water, hydrosol) which can be conducive to the growth of bacteria. In response to this, to maintain the effectiveness and safety of the product, it is essential to incorporate preservatives (sodium dehydroacetate, sodium benzoate, etc.) that will ensure the stability of the mask over time.

Analysis of the INCI list of our purifying mask with organic nettle and charcoal.

Composed of 98% natural ingredients, we have designed a purifying mask with a gel-like texture enriched with charcoal (INCI: Charcoal Powder), nettle (INCI: Urtica Dioica Leaf Extract) and green clay (INCI: Illite, Montmorillonite). This mask combines the absorbent properties of charcoal, the purifying effects of green clay, and the sebum-regulating benefits of stinging nettle extract.

It works by eliminating skin impurities, "regulating" sebum production, and mattifying the skin. Thanks to the soothing and healing properties of green clay, it purifies the skin while making it softer and calming inflammation. Suitable for all skin types, it is particularly recommended for skin prone to blemishes and oily skin.
