What is "Coco-Glucoside" and what is its purpose?

Derived from plants, coco glucoside is often used in the formulations of natural skincare products along with decyl glucoside and coco betaine. It is a non-ionic surfactant. Created from sugar and coconut, this ingredient is suitable for sensitive skin as it gently foams and cleanses. Furthermore, it is approved for use in organic products. Discover its usefulness.

Coco Glucoside: What is it?

Coco glucoside is a non-ionic surfactant that is among the least irritating cleansing bases for the skin. It is a gentle plant-based surfactant derived from coconut or palm kernel oil and wheat or corn glucose. When used alone, its foaming power is relatively low. Therefore, it is recommended to combine it with coco betaine and decyl glucoside.

Coco glucoside belongs to a generation of surfactants known as Alkyl polyglucosides (APG), the raw materials of which are glucose and fatty alcohol. APGs are fully biodegradable and non-irritating.

Coco glucoside is a component in many skincare products suitable for sensitive skin. Made from dehydrated coconut flesh, it is easily biodegradable.

Coco glucoside has a foaming power that facilitates the dissolution of both aqueous and oily substances. Its benefits are as follows:

  • This refers to a mild surfactant that neither irritates the skin nor the mucous membranes;

  • It is easy to thicken with natural polymers;

  • It is compatible with other surfactants;

  • It reduces the irritant potential of other surfactants with which it is combined.

Coco Glucoside: What is its purpose?

Harmless, coco glucoside performs several functions:

  • It allows for maintaining a clean surface;

  • It reduces the surface tension of the skincare treatments;

  • It promotes a uniform distribution of the skincare products during their use;

  • It smooths the hair fiber and cleanses it.

This is about:

  • Of a foaming agent;

  • Regarding a cleansing agent;

  • Of a surfactant.

Coco glucoside possesses revitalizing and emulsifying properties.

Beyond the skin, coco glucoside is frequently used in hair care. Indeed, this active ingredient promotes styling. Moreover, it is used in the manufacturing of:

  • Cleansing Gel;

  • Liquid hand soap;

  • Foaming facial gel;

  • Shampoos: Used as an additive in these treatments, coco glucoside imparts flexibility to the hair and facilitates its detangling.

Coco Glucoside: In which skincare products can it be found?

Coco glucoside produces a light foam that gently cleanses the hair and skin. It is present in a wide range of skincare products:

  • Baby shampoos;

  • Shower gels;

  • Baby bubble baths;

  • Baby shower gels and creams;

  • 2-in-1 baby shower shampoos.

It incorporates foaming care products such as shower gel, liquid soap, shampoo, and bubble bath, with a dosage of 3 to 30% in the aqueous phase. Moreover, it serves to solubilize fragrances and oils, which can thus be integrated into the final preparation.

Our fortifying shampoo with geranium essential oil contains coco glucoside. It is suitable for all hair types, especially for hair that lacks vitality.
