What To Do Against Pimples and Acne?
How Does Acne Occur?
Acne is a skin disease characterized by the appearance of pimples and small lesions on the skin. There are many causes: genetic, hormonal, stress-related, due to taking certain medications, etc. It usually affects teenagers, but also adults.
When acne occurs, there is an increased secretion of sebum (it is called hyperseborrhea) around the hair follicles. The sebum clogs the pores, the openings of the sebaceous glands, on the surface of the skin. In this greasy environment, the acne bacterium Cutibacterium acnes (formerly Propionibacterium acnes), which feeds mainly on sebum, can proliferate well. This bacterium secretes pro-inflammatory substances that are responsible for the inflammation and pimple formation.
There are some good practices you can follow in order to prevent the appearance and/or aggravation of acne pimples.
What Helps To Prevent Acne and Pimples?
First, you should see a dermatologist to get an accurate diagnosis of your acne type and appropriate treatment. Secondly, certain measures are essential. Incorporate them into your beauty routine daily:
The double cleanse:
First, we recommend double cleansing in the evening. First, you should remove makeup from your skin with an oil-based product. This will remove makeup, sunscreen and excess sebum. Select, among others, our cleansing balm. This multipurpose balm is enriched with plant oils of buriti, camelia, coconut and sunflower. It gently cleanses and removes makeup from the face and eyes. The skin is freed from impurities. Its texture, which first turns into oil and then into milk, is gentle on the skin. The balm is 100% natural origin and contains botanical active ingredients with organic certification.
In a second step, you cleanse your skin with a water-based product. As the skin is cleared of makeup, the cleanser can clean it thoroughly. For acne-prone skin, you can choose our exfoliating cleansing gel. Based on 5% gluconolactone, this cleanser provides gentle chemical micro-exfoliation. It unclogs pores and promotes skin hydration. It also contains aloe vera, which moisturizes and soothes the skin, and inulin, which rebalances the skin microbiota. The contained sweet orange essential oil has antibacterial properties that are ideal for fighting pimples.
Note: In the morning, perform cleansing only with the water phase.
Apply targeted skin care products
Certain molecules such as salicylic acid or even zinc have been proven to be effective in soothing and reducing acne pimples. Therefore, after cleansing your skin, you can apply the topical serum against blemishes on the pimples. This serum contains 2% salicylic acid, BHA, which is known for its keratolytic effect and promotes the removal of dead skin cells. It also has a strong anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect. In addition, it contains 1% zinc, which has anti-inflammatory, sebum-regulating and antibacterial effects.
Provide your skin with moisture
Contrary to popular belief, acne skin also needs sufficient moisture to ensure the function of the skin barrier. In fact, the skin barrier protects the skin from external influences as well as dehydration. When the skin barrier is disrupted, transepidermal water loss leads to excessive sebum production, which is an ideal environment for pimples to form. Apply our purifying face cream to cleansed and dry skin in the morning and evening. It contains zinc, which is a key active ingredient against acne due to its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and sebum-regulating properties.
Protect yourself from UV rays
The rays dry out the skin and make you sweat, stimulating the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum, which leads to increased pimple formation. Therefore, it is essential to wear a non-comedogenic sunscreen with high SPF all year round.
Note: We recommend that you avoid prolonged and repeated exposure to the sun.
In addition to these daily steps that you should include in your skin care routine, there are other habits that you may want to implement to limit the appearance of acne pimples:
Clean your brushes regularly
These are breeding grounds for bacteria. Clean them at least once a week and don't share them with others.
Avoid touching your pimples
Even though it's tempting, you should definitely not touch your pimples. They could cause an infection and lead to scarring and/or marks.
Wear loose clothing to avoid friction
Acne on the body has the same causes as acne on the face. However, it can be aggravated by wearing tight clothing, as it can cause friction and excessive sweating.
Make sure you eat a balanced diet
Diet is often neglected, but it plays an important role in the appearance of your skin. Research has shown that there is a link between the intestinal microbiota and acne. So, make sure you eat a healthy and balanced diet and prefer anti-inflammatory foods with a low glycemic index.
