Epilation Aftercare: Mistakes to Avoid.

Ingrown hairs, burning, irritation, itching… These are just some of the minor inconveniences that can occur to epilated skin. Nevertheless, they are largely avoidable, provided you don't make these four mistakes.

Not Treating Your Skin Immediately with Nourishing and Moisturizing Epilation Aftercare.

Whether your skin is dry, combination or oily, its sensitivity increases with depilation. To soothe the skin, we recommend cooling it immediately after waxing with cold water compresses or native aloe vera gel. You can also apply our organic aloe vera & orange blossom moisturizing gel to immediately cool the affected areas.

Afterward, to restore the hydrolipidic film of epilated skin, it's imperative to apply a moisturizing or nourishing treatment. Hair removal has weakened the skin's protective barrier. What's more, as the stratum corneum is thinner, it's the ideal time to give the skin active ingredients and nutrients that will be more easily absorbed, such as nourishing, firming and slimming products.

To rehydrate your skin after hair removal, you can apply one of our body creams:

  • Our squalane 10% + shea butter nourishing cream is enriched with nourishing active ingredients. It restores the skin's lipid barrier, reduces feelings of tightness and protects the skin from external aggressions.

  • Our caffeine 2% + guarana extract firming cream contains firming active ingredients to help firm skin tissue and reduce the appearance of cellulite.

The 10-ingredient moisturizing cream is a minimalist formula that moisturizes all skin types, even sensitive. It is 99% formulated with ingredients of natural origin.

Sun Exposure.

Avoid exposure to the sun for 12 hours following a hair removal session, as it is a bad idea. Epilated skin is more sensitive than usual and less well protected from UV rays. The epidermis is weakened and becomes all the more sensitive and receptive to the sun's harmful effects.

Not to Exfoliate Before or After Epilating.

Hair removal is the leading cause of ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs are hairs that fail to break through the skin barrier, or that emerge outwards from the hair follicle, but curl up and re-enter the skin. Men's faces and necks; women's legs, bikini line and underarms are the most vulnerable areas of the body. Generally, a benign problem, the swollen pimples they cause can nevertheless cause irritation, pain and sometimes even become infectious.

To avoid ingrown hairs when the hair grows back, choose to regularly exfoliate before or after epilating. Do it once a week. This is an essential epilation aftercare step.

Typology has developed two body scrubs based on exfoliating micro-grains derived from crushed apricot kernels.

  • The nourishing body scrub softens and smoothes the epidermis. It is particularly suitable for dry, uncomfortable skin.

  • Toning body scrub contains organic green coffee macerate (draining) and organic lemongrass and cedar essential oils (anti-cellulite). Recommended for smoothing, firming and toning the skin, while reducing the appearance of orange-peel skin.

Note: Do not use mechanical exfoliation directly after hair removal, but wait at least two days before exfoliating.

Touching Your Skin Too Much.

Hands off! Touching and handling your recently epilated skin can cause irritation. It also encourages the formation of redness and ingrown hairs. It's also worth remembering an essential rule: never pierce ingrown hairs yourself, as this can inflame them and lead to the appearance of a post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation mark.
