Post-Hair Removal: Mistakes to Avoid

Ingrown hairs, burns, irritations, itching... These are all minor inconveniences that one can experience after a hair removal session! However, they are largely avoidable, provided that these four mistakes are not made.

Do not feed and hydrate the skin immediately after.

Whether your skin is dry, combination, or oily, its sensitivity increases with hair removal. To soothe it, it is recommended to cool it down immediately after hair removal using cold water compresses or with native aloe vera gel. You can also apply our hydrating gel Aloe vera & organic orange blossom to immediately cool the affected areas.

Subsequently, to restore the hydrolipidic film, it is imperative to apply a moisturizing and/or nourishing care product. Indeed, hair removal has weakened the protective skin barrier. Moreover, with the stratum corneum being thinner, it's the perfect time to provide the skin with active ingredients and nutrients that will be more easily absorbed, such as nourishing, firming, slimming treatments, etc...

To rehydrate your skin after hair removal, you can apply one of our body creams:

  • The nourishing cream Squalane 10% + Shea Butter is enriched with nourishing active ingredients. It restores the skin's lipid barrier, reduces feelings of tightness, and protects the skin from external aggressions.

  • The firming cream Caffeine 2% + Guarana extract contains firming active ingredients that help to tighten skin tissues and reduce the appearance of cellulite.

  • The moisturizing cream with 10 ingredients is a minimalist formula that allows for hydration of all skin types, even sensitive ones. It is formulated with 99% natural origin ingredients.

Exposure to the sun.

It is advisable to avoid sun exposure for 12 hours following a hair removal session. Indeed, exposing oneself to the sun after hair removal is a bad idea, as the skin without hair is more sensitive than usual and less well protected from UV rays. The epidermis is weakened and becomes even more sensitive and receptive to the harmful effects of the sun.

Do not exfoliate in the upcoming days.

Hair removal is the primary cause associated with the formation of ingrown hairs. These are hairs that cannot break through the skin barrier or that exit the hair follicle outwardly but then curl and re-enter the skin. For men, the face and neck are most vulnerable; for women, the legs, bikini area, and armpits are the most susceptible body regions. While generally a minor issue, the resulting raised bumps can nonetheless cause irritation, discomfort, and sometimes even become infectious.

To prevent the formation of ingrown hairs during regrowth, opt for a regular exfoliation. Carry it out once a week.

Typology has developed two body scrubs using micro-exfoliating grains derived from ground apricot kernels.

  • The Nourishing Body Scrub helps to soften and smooth the skin. It is particularly suitable for dry and uncomfortable skin.

  • The Toning Body Scrub contains organic green coffee macerate (draining) as well as essential oils of lemongrass and organic cedar (anti-cellulite). It is recommended for smoothing, firming, and toning the skin while reducing the appearance of cellulite.

Do not perform mechanical exfoliation immediately after your hair removal, but wait at least two days before scrubbing your skin.

Touching the skin.

Hands off! Touching and handling your skin after hair removal can cause irritation. It also promotes the formation of redness and ingrown hairs. Moreover, it is useful to reiterate an essential rule: never attempt to pierce your own ingrown hairs, as this risks inflaming them and/or causing a post-inflammatory hyperpigmented mark to appear.
