Everything you need to know about tinted balm.

Lacking sebaceous and sweat glands, the skin of the lips lacks protection against external aggressions. Therefore, it is necessary to take care of them daily. The tinted balm is an ally for dry and chapped lips among other treatments. Discover here what you need to know about this care.

Definition of a tinted balm.

The tinted balm is a colored treatment with a creamy texture to be applied locally on the lips in case of dryness or simply as a preventive measure. This tinted treatment will serve to rehydrate them, relieve them, protect them from external exposure, and repair them, all while subtly tinting them through daily application. Tinted lip balms are often composed of natural ingredients, such as:

Thanks to such a composition, this treatment will allow to create an occlusive film on the surface of the lips, which is naturally non-existent. As the skin of the lips is particularly vulnerable and thin, they therefore need appropriate care. In addition to hydrating and protecting the lips, tinted balms have also been designed to provide a touch of color with a natural finish. Thus, they allow to take care of them while enhancing their beauty.

Tinted Balm: Why Incorporate it into Your Daily Routine?

Unlike the epidermis of our body or face, the lips do not contain either sebaceous or sweat glands, which are responsible for the production of the hydrolipidic film, hence their fragility and sensitivity. Furthermore, they do not produce melanin and the skin of the lips is five times thinner than the rest of the face. Therefore, they lack protection, while they have to deal with external aggressions (cold, dry air, air conditioning, wind, acidic and spicy foods, nicotine, etc...), to which they are exposed daily. Thus, the lips are particularly prone to the risks of dehydration and chapping on a daily basis. To preserve them as long as possible, it is therefore essential to provide them with special care to help them protect themselves.

In addition to these external factors, lips also have to endure the drying effect of certain lipsticks, such as long-lasting or matte finish ones. However, by opting for a tinted lip balm , there's no need to worry about applying a base care product in addition to lipstick. The tinted balm combines the properties of a classic lip care product (moisturizing, nourishing, protective, repairing) with the numerous beneficial active ingredients it contains and those of a lipstick by providing that little touch of color that we don't find in a moisturizing lip balm. In summary, this 2-in-1 makeup product combines the qualities of a lipstick and those of a lip balm.

Tinted Lip Balm: A Focus on Its Benefits and Functions.

Particularly thin, the skin of the lips is vulnerable to external aggressions it faces daily. Therefore, it is important to use suitable care such as tinted balms. They offer several benefits:

  • They enhance the lips through the pigments they contain;

  • They protect the lips from external exposure;

  • They soften and make the lips more supple;

  • They alleviate the feelings of tightness and discomfort they endure;

  • They maintain their hydration.

However, the primary function of the tinted balm is to create an occlusive veil on the surface of the lips with the aim of retaining lip hydration (preventing water evaporation) and protecting them from external aggressions. Indeed, cold, sun, and wind have a drying effect on the skin, and thus the lips can become vulnerable.

It can even be used to tint the cheeks, like a blush.

Furthermore, this tinted lip balm was designed without synthetic hydrocarbons, silicones, chemical preservatives, parabens, or fragrances. To apply it, nothing could be simpler: take a small amount of product on the tip of your finger and then spread the material along your lips. Repeat the number of layers for a more intense effect. However, to enhance your complexion, smile and apply the material to the apples of your cheeks by tapping.

The dangers of colored lip balm.

Some lip care products, including tinted balms, may contain ingredients deemed harmful to human health. BHA, BHT, synthetic hydrocarbons, etc... these compounds are increasingly under scrutiny. Even though they are relatively well tolerated for skin application, it's a different story when it comes to using them on the lips.

Indeed, the products that we apply to the skin of our lips largely end up being ingested. These controversial ingredients are suspected to be endocrine disruptors or carcinogenic. Faced with such a finding, which still needs to be verified and confirmed, it is better to err on the side of caution and favor a treatment free of these chemical agents but enriched with natural ingredients (oils, butters, waxes, aloe vera, etc...).
