Huile de noisette : quand l'utiliser ?

Hazelnut oil, when and how often should it be used?

Non-greasy and non-comedogenic, hazelnut vegetable oil is considered a dry oil that quickly penetrates the epidermis. Its sebum-regulating properties make it an excellent choice for taking care of oily skin as well as hair that quickly becomes greasy.

What is hazelnut oil?

Formerly known as "hazel", the hazel tree (Corylus avellana) is a tree belonging to the family of Betulaceae primarily cultivated in Europe, Asia Minor, and North Africa. The hazelnut is the oilseed fruit that contains the highest lipid content.

Like the majority of vegetable oils, hazelnut oil is derived from a method called cold pressing, followed by a filtration process on cellulose paper. Hazelnut oil, known for its softening properties, has a remarkable ability to spread and penetrate, making it an excellent carrier in aromatherapy. It is fluid and light, with rapid absorption and provides a dry touch. It leaves the skin matte, soft, and comfortable.

When to resort to a skincare treatment based on hazelnut oil?

Firstly, let's clarify that hazelnut oil is an ingredient that does not contain any allergenic substances. It can be used by pregnant/breastfeeding women as well as young children without risk.

Next, this vegetable oil can be used pure or incorporated into a skincare formula. It is suitable for all skin types. However, it is primarily recommended for taking care of combination to oily skin . Indeed, it is particularly rich in monounsaturated fatty acids such as oleic acid (also known as omega 9), present in a mass fraction ranging from 71 to 87%. In fact, this lipid is part of the natural composition of sebum, a substance secreted by the body to counteract skin and hair dryness. Oleic acid is therefore recognized by skin constituents, and thus penetrates deeply to regulate sebum production by the sebaceous glands.

Furthermore, thanks to its dry texture, hazelnut vegetable oil has the advantage of leaving no oily residue. It's non-comedogenic (comedogenicity index = 0), meaning it doesn't clog pores and therefore does not promote the appearance of blackheads.

Ourhazelnut vegetable oilis derived from the cold pressing of hazelnuts grown inFranceusing organic farming methods. This treatment can serve as a night cream, to be used after a serum among other things. Simply apply a few drops of oil to your face using a cotton pad or directly with your fingers.

Furthermore, due to its sebum-regulating activity on combination to oily skin, hazelnut oil is also included in two treatments designed for these skin types:

  • Thepurifying botanical blendwithpeony, whichpurifies and regenerates the skin during your sleep. This serum is applied at the end of your evening beauty routine, just before bed, on clean and dry skin.

  • Theblemish-fighting serumcontaining 1% bakuchiol is designed to reduce pimples due to its antibacterial properties. This treatment can be applied morning and evening, preferably at the end of your routine, before your day/night cream.

It's worth noting, the scalp can also benefit from the cleansing and purifying properties of hazelnut oil. This oil helps to combat the appearance of oily dandruff caused by excessive flaking. To cleanse this area, opt for a hazelnut oil massage before each shampoo. At the base of the hair, apply two to three drops of hazelnut oil and then massage the scalp. It's possible to leave this oil on for a few minutes to an hour before shampooing.

When and at what time of the day should hazelnut oil be used?

Regarding its application frequency, hazelnut oil can be used daily to care for the skin. Non-photosensitizing, it can be applied in the morning , but we recommend using it in the evening, at the end of your routine, due to its oily nature. To enjoy its benefits, pour a few drops of oil into the palm of your hand, warm it up, and spread it over your face and neck. Light circular massages help the active ingredients penetrate.

When used for hair care, hazelnut oil can be applied 2 to 3 times a week, depending on the needs of one's scalp.

Note: Hazelnut oil is a healthy ingredient that does not contain allergenic substances. However, it is always recommended to test it in the crook of your elbow before any use. If itching or irritation occurs, do not apply the hazel oil to the face or scalp.
