Ferulic acid derives its name from a plant called Ferula, a herbaceous plant that belongs to the Apiaceae family. However, this organic acid is also found in certain cereals (wheat, barley), in tree barks like pine, and in several fruits and vegetables (rhubarb, grapes, spinach...).

Thanks to its overall antioxidant power, it provides numerous benefits to the skin. In cosmetic formulas, ferulic acid is typically introduced at a percentage ranging between 1.5 and 3%. It is predominantly found in serums designed to brighten and even out the complexion, as well as prevent the appearance of pigmentation spots and/or wrinkles. In day and night creams, it is often paired with vitamin C for a comprehensive antioxidant effect. It is also found in the composition of certain sunscreens or mist sprays for its ability to neutralize free radicals and thus prevent photo-aging.
