Pourquoi faire un masque pour les cheveux ?

Why should you use a hair mask?

In the hair care routine, the hair mask is a must-have. Applied before or after shampoo and conditioner, it can provide various benefits, directly correlated to the ingredients that make it up.

What is the purpose of a hair mask?

A rich treatment packed with active ingredients, the hair mask is applied once or twice a week and has a significant influence on the quality and beauty of the hair. It provides a complementary action to shampoos and conditioners. Indeed, shampoo cleans the hair by removing impurities while providing some benefits (hydration, nutrition...) that remain light and superficial. The conditioner is primarily there to facilitate detangling, even though it can also enhance the benefits of the shampoo. However, these two products are not as active as a hair mask which penetrates the hair fibers more deeply.

The various types of hair masks and their benefits.

Depending on one's hair concerns, a variety of masks exist, each with different compositions and methods of use.

  • Purifying masks for oily hair

Oily hair is a result of overproduction of sebum at the scalp level. The lengths then often appear heavy and flat. Masks used for this type of concern contain absorbent and purifying ingredients such as green or white clay and other Ayurvedic powders. They are applied directly to the roots and the scalp, usually on dry hair and before shampooing.

  • Restorative masks for dry, curly and/or colored hair

To nourish and repair these types of hair, hair masks often contain natural fatty substances such as shea butter, argan oil, avocado, coconut, or even mango butter. They are most often applied after shampoo and conditioner, directly onto the lengths. A few minutes of application time should be respected before rinsing. They help to soften the hair by saturating it with fatty substances, while also smoothing their fiber.

  • Strengthening masks for thin, fragile hair

These types of hair require a treatment that coats the hair fiber to provide structure and volume. They typically contain plant proteins or vitamins such as biotin, which stimulates the production of essential amino acids like keratin, one of the main components of hair.

  • Soothing masks for irritated scalps

Scalp irritation can lead to excessive flaking, which is the cause of dandruff. To soothe these imbalances, certain hair masks contain anti-inflammatory agents such as aloe vera, lavender essential oil , or even tea tree. They are most often applied directly to the scalp, on dry hair.
