Biotinyl-GHK and Panthenol: What Are They Used For?

Biotinyl-GHK and panthenol are active ingredients derived from the B vitamins, essential to the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins. They transform food into energy necessary for proper functioning of the body. In cosmetic care, they are recommended to stimulate the growth of hair follicles (hair, eyelashes, eyebrows).

SUMMARY

What Are Biotinyl-GHK and Panthenol?

Biotinyl-GHK, also known as biotinoyl tripeptide-1, is the product of the reaction between biotin (vitamin B8 or vitamin H) and tripeptide-1 (a peptide with three Gly-His-Lys amino acid residues). This compound is soluble in water and has a molecular weight of 566.7 g/mol. In a cosmetic formula, it is generally incorporated in a percentage of between 1 and 3%.

Panthenol is also known as pro-vitamin B5 and dexpanthenol. In a cosmetic formula, it is usually incorporated in a percentage of between 2 and 5%. It is the precursor of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), a major component of coenzyme A, which plays a key role in the repair mechanism of cells and tissues.

Biotinyl-GHK and Panthenol, Active Ingredients That Stimulate the Growth of Hair Follicles

Biotinyl-GHK and panthenol have strengthening properties for hair follicles (eyelashes, eyebrows, hair).

In capillary application, they act on several levels to strengthen the hair and stimulate its growth. First of all, they reinforce the anchoring of hair to the scalp to prevent hair loss. To do this, they stimulate the synthesis and organization of adhesion molecules such as laminin 5 and collagen IV. These two proteins make up the basal membrane that separates the dermal compartment from the epithelial compartment.

Then, they promote the proliferation of keratinocytes of the hair bulb. Indeed, they stimulate the Ki-67 protein which boosts cell proliferation. Finally, they reduce the production of DHT (dihydrotestosterone), the main factor contributing to baldness. Moreover, thanks to their nourishing and toning properties, biotinyl-GHK and panthenol strengthen the bulbs by providing them with moisture.

Note: These two active ingredients can also be used to promote the growth of hair follicles in other areas such as eyelashes and eyebrows.

In Which Skin Care Products Can You Find Biotinyl-GHK and Panthenol?

In combination, these two active ingredients are generally integrated into cosmetic care products to reduce hair loss, strengthen soft nails or strengthen and promote the growth of eyelashes and eyebrows. Thus, it is possible to find them in eye make-up remover lotions, eyelash booster serums, densifying hair serums, shampoos, hair scrubs and mascaras.

Biotinoyl tripeptide-1 and panthenol are present in our eyelash & brow serum. This treatment nourishes, strengthens and promotes the growth of eyelashes and eyebrows. It should be applied preferably in the evening, after make-up removal and facial cleansing on clean, dry skin.
