Biphasic Lotion: How to Use it Correctly?

There is a wide variety of makeup removers available in the cosmetics market, each with their own benefits: micellar water, cleansing oil, cleansing milk... Biphase lotions, which have been marketed since the 1950s, are mixed products, composed of two separate phases : an oily phase, which sits on top because it is less dense, and a water phase.

This characteristic bestows upon it several virtues and makes it very effective at removing the most stubborn makeup (long-lasting, water-resistant...). Indeed, the aqueous part is capable of attracting all particles and impurities present on the face that have an affinity with water, while the oily part traps oilier residues such as sebum and waxes.

Biphasic lotions thus combine the benefits of cleansing oils and micellar waters, while overcoming their shortcomings. The oily component prevents the drying effect sometimes associated with micellar waters, and the aqueous component prevents the formation of an unpleasant greasy film that can occur after using a cleansing oil. Finally, it should be noted that biphasic lotions are gentle products suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive.

Like any makeup remover, the biphasic lotion is applied in the evening, as the first step in your routine. It helps to rid the skin of makeup, pollution, sweat, and sebum that have accumulated throughout the day. Before using the biphasic lotion, it is important to shake it vigorously to properly mix the two phases. Otherwise, you risk applying only the oily phase, which floats on the surface. You might then experience a rather greasy sensation and the makeup removal would lose its effectiveness.

Before applying the biphasic lotion, wash your hands and remove your contact lenses or glasses if you wear them. Then, generously soak a cotton pad, as this formula is quite liquid. Preferably choose a reusable and washable one with the softest texture possible to reduce friction, avoid irritating the eyes, and limit the risk of redness.

Place the cotton pad on the closed eye for a few seconds to ensure it thoroughly saturates the entire surface. Then gently slide it softly from the inner corner of the eye towards the outer corner, then from top to bottom in circular motions. Follow the same procedure for the rest of your face: starting from the forehead and moving outward, then at the level of the cheekbones and cheeks, and finally towards the chin. Be very gentle around the mouth and the corners of the lips, as this is a delicate area.
