Color Corrector: What are we talking about?

Color correctors are cosmetic products similar to traditional concealers, with the exception that they offer a range of varied shades, going beyond skin tones. Their purpose is simple: to correct a pigmentation flaw using the theory of complementary colors. This theory is based on the color wheel which displays a sequence of 12 colors in relation to each other. This tool proves particularly useful for understanding the relationships between colors and their perception by the human eye, a crucial concept in cosmetics.

When two complementary colors are mixed, their hues cancel each other out.

Complementary colors are those colors that are directly opposite each other on the color wheel. For instance, yellow is complementary to purple. Applied just before the foundation, the color correctors thus allow for a more uniform makeup base, which subsequently facilitates its application and enhances its appearance.

What is the significance of red correctors?

Red correctors have been formulated to cancel out their complementary color, which is blue. They are traditionally used to blur vascular dark circles, which have a bluish appearance. This type of dark circle is very common, especially among people with fair skin, and indicates a slowdown in microcirculation of the blood. This is characterized by a bluish pigmentation on the lower eyelid due to the thinness of the skin in this area. Although vascular dark circles are a benign cosmetic issue, they can give a sad and tired appearance to one's gaze.

To remedy this, it is possible to apply a few drops of red corrector around the eye contour. The method of using this product is the same as that of a traditional concealer: take the equivalent of a grain of rice for each eye using your fingers or a makeup brush and distribute the product on your dark circles by small dots starting from the inner corner of the eye towards the outside. It is essential not to apply too much red corrector, as this can give an unnatural appearance. Then spread the product and gently tap on your dark circles to make it penetrate more easily. You can use a sponge for this if you wish. The important thing is not to rub the eye contour, due to the fragility of this area.

Tip : For an even brighter look, we recommend applying a concealer that matches your skin tone right after your red corrector. At Typology, we offer a tinted concealer available in six shades. In addition to effectively hiding your dark circles and brightening this area of the face, this treatment is enriched with caffeine, an active ingredient known for its ability to stimulate blood circulation and reduce the visibility of vascular dark circles over the long term.
