Summer: Practices to Adopt for Healthy Hair

Long-term exposure to the sun can have several effects on the hair. Indeed, solar rays can easily damage our hair fibers and can alter the appearance of our hair. The use of suitable hair care products is highly recommended during periods of intense heat. This article provides an overview.

The impacts of the sun and sea on hair.

When the sun's rays reach human hair, they cause a gradual deterioration. This is particularly evident in a lightening of the hair due to the oxidation of melanin by free radicals, as well as an alteration of keratin. This results in a loss of shine, a rough texture, and a dull appearance. Generally, the damage first occurs at the cuticle level, which acts as a protective barrier for the hair cortex. Additionally, the hydrolipidic film that covers the cuticle also undergoes alterations, causing the opening of the scales and a loss of hydration. The hair becomes dry and brittle.

Colored hair is particularly sensitive to the effects of the sun. Indeed, UV rays can degrade hair pigments, causing a discoloration or alteration of the original shade. Colored hair becomes dull, lackluster, and can even change color in an undesirable way.

Being highly saline, seawater dries out the hair. Indeed, salt tends to absorb the moisture from the hair, which can make it drier and more fragile. The salts and minerals in seawater can also attack the hair cuticle, leading to the opening of the scales and a loss of shine.

The importance of a hair care routine.

You can avoid the adverse effects of UV rays on your hair by adopting a few simple practices:

  • Consider covering your hair in case of prolonged sun exposure. This will help block some of the UV rays and limit hair damage.

  • You can also establish a suitable hair care routine. Treatments made with ingredients from organic farming protect all hair types. They are suitable for fragile, dry, and dull hair. Moreover, prefer moisturizing and nourishing treatments that can prevent hair dryness.

  • Avoid rubbing your hair after washing it. The best approach is to cover it with a soft towel and gently pat the surfaces with your hands to reduce moisture.

  • Limit the use of heat sources: the sun is already a significant source of heat. Therefore, it is not recommended to expose your hair to additional sources of heat (straighteners, hair dryers, curling irons ...).

Among the recommended treatments for your summer hair care routine, we have:

The Shampoo

Incorporating our nutritive shampoo with a 1% biolipid complex and camellia oil extract into your hair care routine helps to repair and nourish the hair fiber. This treatment fills in the hair cuticles, making it smooth and flexible. The moisturizing virtues of the shampoo soothe the scalp. This care, enriched with soybean seed extract, reduces the size of the separated cuticles, which improves the softness of the hair. Aloe vera enhances the hair by restoring its shine.

The mask

You can use this shampoo in synergy with our repairing hair mask featuring biomimetic ceramides and avocado oil, which is ideal for hair daily exposed to UV rays. The biomimetic ceramides act like cement to restructure the fiber and fill in hair scales. The mango butter (INCI: Mangifera Indica Seed Butter) repairs and prevents the appearance of split ends and reduces breakage. Avocado oil (INCI: Persea Gratissima (avocado) Oil) strengthens the roots and stimulates growth.
