It is true that the sun is essential for life, for instance, for the synthesis of vitamin D. However, it is also important to protect oneself from it. Indeed, the risks of UV rays are numerous:

  • Sunburns : Risks of burns and eye injuries caused by repeated and prolonged exposure to the sun's UVB rays. They are manifested by redness, itching, and sometimes blisters.

  • Photo-dermatoses : These are skin conditions related to a high sensitivity of the skin to light (photosensitivity). Among the photo-dermatoses, we can mention polymorphous light eruption, acne, or even solar urticaria, etc...

  • Skin Aging : UVA rays are the rays that penetrate the deepest into the skin, at the dermis level. They cause the formation of free radicals (oxidative stress) which decrease the skin's natural repair capacity. Furthermore, an abnormal accumulation of elastin fibers as well as altered collagen fibers are observed in the dermis. This is explained by the effect of UVA rays on DNA. The observed results are a loosening of the skin, and the early appearance of wrinkles and pigment spots.

  • Skin Cancer : UVA and UVB rays are genotoxic, meaning they induce alterations at the DNA level, leading to the emergence of cancerous cells.

At the end of your routine, it is therefore essential to apply a sunscreen that is suitable for your skin type, and this throughout the year!
