Does micellar water make sensitive skin more fragile?
This depends on the composition of the micellar water in question. As a reminder, micellar water is a dispersion of micelles in an aqueous solution. It is used to remove makeup and cleanse the skin.
Micelles are molecular assemblies formed by surfactants. These are molecules composed of a "head" that is hydrophilic (water-loving) and a "body" that is lipophilic (having an affinity for fats). During the first stage of using micellar water, the micelles open and the hydrophilic heads attach to the cotton. Then, once the cotton is applied to the skin, the lipophilic bodies capture the fatty particles present on the skin's surface (makeup, impurities...). Thus, your skin is purified and detoxified.
Themicellar water is particularly suitable for sensitive skin as it does not require any rinsing step with tap water. Thus, it avoids any lime scale residues on the skin surface that could further dry it out. Moreover, micellar waters are generally formulated without alcohol and without fragrance, thus avoiding any irritation. However, it is important that this product contains gentle surfactants to preserve the hydrolipidic film present on the skin surface.
