Profile: Wrinkles Around the Lip Contour

Definition: Visible irreversible traits around the mouth. There are primarily three types of wrinkles in this area: (1) sun pleats, barcode wrinkles, or smoker's lines, which are vertical or oblique grooves at the contour of the upper lip beneath the nose; (2) bitterness folds or marionette lines, referring to oblique wrinkles that start from the corners of the lips and descend towards the jaw; and (3) nasolabial folds or smile lines, which are linear grooves that start from the wings of the nose and extend to the corners of the mouth.
Internal and external causes: Muscle hypercontraction, skin aging, smoking, frequent exposure to the sun, repeated movements (whistling, drinking with a straw, kissing, smoking, etc...).
How to reduce or eliminate: Apply treatments containing active ingredients that have a moisturizing and firming action (hyaluronic acid, polyglutamic acid, retinoids, peptides, coenzyme Q10...); aesthetic medicine (hyaluronic acid injection, fractional laser, chemical peeling to be performed in a dermatological office, microdermabrasion, lip scrubbing, radiofrequency, micro needling, thread lifting).
Preventative steps to take: Performing facial gymnastics; protecting the mouth and its contour from UV rays with a suitable sun care product; applying a daily moisturizing treatment around the mouth; performing a scrub once a week; opting for moisturizing and firming treatments (bakuchiol, peptides, retinoids, hyaluronic acid, coenzyme Q10, etc.).
