Burn-out de la peau : quand faut-il s'inquiéter ?

Skin Burn-out: When Should You Be Concerned?

Performing a function of thermal regulation and protection, the skin is a sensitive organ continuously exposed to various aggressions. Lifestyle, diet, and external factors can have an impact on the health of the epidermis. As a result, it may at some point show signs of fatigue. In English, we sometimes refer to this as "skin burn-out", but when should we be concerned? More details in this article.

Skin Burn-out: What Exactly Is It?

The English term "burn-out" refers to a state of exhaustion, primarily related to work and mental load. Burn-out can have some early warning signs, such as dull and particularly reactive skin.

Skin burn-out is typically associated with stress, much like psychological burn-out. However, it can also be attributed to pollution (dust, pollutant emissions, chemical agents, unsuitable environments, etc.), lifestyle choices (excessive alcohol consumption, a diet high in fats and sugars, lack of sleep...) or even the daily application of inappropriate beauty treatments.

When should one be concerned?

Various signs can indicate skin burnout. The skin cells fail to regenerate normally, the complexion becomes dull, and wrinkles and dark circles appear. Indeed, stress is the root cause of an uneven complexion. It releases hormones such as adrenaline, oxytocin, vasopressin, and ACTH, which trigger a chain reaction in the skin layer leading to vasoconstriction, resulting in a pale and grayish complexion.

Furthermore, skin burn-out is also characterized by premature skin aging. Other signs such as unexplained tingling and redness may also occur, related to increased sensitivity or irritability of the skin.

All these signs indicate a state of skin burn-out, and it is essential to take the necessary steps to regain a healthy complexion and thus restore self-confidence.

How to combat skin burnout?

Firstly, it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle and an environment conducive to well-being. It is thus advisable to consume less sugar, while favoring foods rich in Vitamin C, E, and beta-carotene, as well as engaging in physical exercise and practicing relaxation activities (meditation, yoga...).

To tailor one's daily beauty routine to the specific needs of a skin in burn-out, it is recommended to use dedicated and specially formulated skincare products to allow the skin to regain its radiance and softness.

  1. Focus entirely on hydration

Internal hydration first. Drinks provide water to all organs, a portion of which then heads towards the dermis and diffuses through the various skin layers until it evaporates on the surface.Drinking 1.5 L of water per dayhelps to keep the skin plump, as well as to slow down skin aging. Indeed, water acts at the level of the horny layer as a softener. Thus, the signs of aging will tend to mark more quickly ondehydrated skin, which is less elastic than skin that is full of water.

Next, external hydration. Some hygroscopic actives have the ability to store water molecules in the skin and thus limit its dehydration. These include hyaluronic acid and polyglutamic acid. Thehyaluronic acid is a compound widely used in skincare for several years now, while polyglutamic acid is a recent active on the market. However, combining these two molecules provides the skin with a hydration boost. On one hand, hyaluronic acid acts on the internal cells of the dermis for long-lasting hydration. It notably contributes to oxygenation, toning, and nourishment of the skin. On the other hand, thepolyglutamic acid forms a protective film on the surface of the stratum corneum that prevents water evaporation.

For instance, during your beauty routine, morning and evening, you can first apply the hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid, followed by the plumping serum with polyglutamic acid and red algae extract.

  2. Pampering your skin with masks

In addition to benefiting your skin, this represents a moment of well-being that encourages relaxation. Instead of a cigarette break or a too-sweet snack, take short wellness breaks by applying one of our following masks, depending on your skin type.

  3. Pay special attention to the contours of the eyes

It's no secret, psychological burnout is exhausting. The fatigue that results from it is accompanied by physical manifestations, such as bags and dark circles under the eyes. If this is your case, caffeine is your best ally. Indeed, this active ingredient has several benefits. It activates blood microcirculation, it decongests tissues, and it fights against skin aging.

To combat dark circles or bags under the eyes, you can choose our eye serum or our dark circle and bag cream, both containing caffeine. However, these treatments have no effect on hollow dark circles and fatty bags. Furthermore, in the morning, you can apply our tinted concealer. This hybrid formula, halfway between makeup, blurs dark circles and bags in one step. Indeed, it is enriched with caffeine, niacinamide, and cornflower hydrosol for a long-lasting effect on the appearance of dark circles and bags.

  4. Practicing Self-Massage

This involves applying gentle pressure to the face: small pinches along the oval, circular movements around the eyes, a lifting smoothing with the palms of the hands over the entire face... Not only do these practices relax, but they also promote the elimination of toxins and restore elasticity to the facial muscles.
