Bienfaits masque hydratant visage.

The benefits of a hydrating facial mask.

With pollution, stress, and seasonal changes, the skin often faces a lack of hydration. It loses its glow and can "show" more with dehydration fine lines that appear or become more pronounced. A hydrating mask helps combat this phenomenon. Discover the benefits of this product in this article.

The facial hydrating mask, in brief.

In skincare, the mask is a beauty ritual that dates back to millennia. In ancient Egypt, Cleopatra made her own masks from figs and donkey milk with the aim of reducing the appearance of her wrinkles and providing her skin with antioxidant protection. Today, there are all kinds of masks on the cosmetic market, from detoxifying and purifying masks to nourishing and lipid-replenishing masks.
Hydrating masks are typically made up of a single aqueous phase, meaning they only contain hydrophilic ingredients that are miscible with each other. Most often, the first compound listed on the I.N.C.I. list is none other than water (Aqua).

A moisturizing mask often acts quickly on skin hydration, which helps to reduce the appearance of dehydration fine lines and soothe feelings of tightness. In the cosmetic market, this type of treatment is available in cream, gel, or fabric textures. It is generally suitable for all skin types, even the oiliest, and is applied once or twice a week. Discover its various benefits below.

Benefit #1: Increasing the skin's hydration level.

This is the primary function of a moisturizing mask. To achieve this, the majority of such products contain active ingredients with recognized moisturizing properties such as thehyaluronic acid or even the tremella extract (a natural source of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid).

As a reminder, the hydration level of the skin is linked to the content of hyaluronic acid, which is predominantly found in the dermis. This compound acts like a molecular sponge and can hold up toa thousand times its weight in water.Furthermore, it serves as a support for collagen and elastin fibers. Thus, it plays a fundamental role in thedensityandfirmnessof the skin. Unfortunately, over the years, its content in the dermis decreases and the skin becomes lax. From the age of 50, it is proven that the level of hyaluronic acid ishalved. Therefore, it is relevant to supply the skin with it through treatments like hydrating masks in order to stimulate its production in the dermis and deeply hydrate the skin to prevent the appearance of wrinkles.

Benefit #2: Strengthening the Hydrolipidic Film.

Certain ingredients found in a hydrating mask such as the aloe vera gel often have the ability to form a microscopic film on the skin's surface to enhance the impermeability of the skin barrier. This strengthens the hydrolipidic film, which helps to limit insensible water loss (IWL). As a reminder, IWL is related to the path that water takes from inside to the surface of the skin before evaporating. This phenomenon depends on external factors, such as temperature, humidity, etc... as well as internal factors which are the condition of the stratum corneum, the water gradient in the different epidermal strata, and the integrity of the hydrolipidic film. By strengthening the latter, the compounds present in the hydrating mask make it difficult for water molecules to evaporate, trapping them longer within the skin layers, thus promoting hydration.

Benefit #3: Allowing oneself a moment of well-being.

A hydrating mask should be applied once or twice a week. It is recommended to incorporate it into a well-layered beauty routine that represents a true moment for oneself.

Start by performing a scrub to subsequently enhance the penetration of the active ingredients of the hydrating mask through the skin and remove impurities/excess sebum that clog the pores. Depending on your skin type, you can use the brightening face scrub (for dry, uncomfortable and/or dull skin) or the regenerating face scrub (for dry skin showing signs of skin aging).

Following the exfoliation, the hydrating mask can be applied evenly on dry skin in a semi-thick layer, avoiding the eye contour. For this step, the mask can be spread directly with the fingers or with a brush to distribute the treatment evenly. It is recommended to leave the mask on for 10 minutesbefore rinsing your face with clear water.

To conclude this ritual, apply a leave-on moisturizing treatment after the mask, such as a serum and/or cream. If you have dry skin, the face moisturizing cream with 9 ingredients is enriched with hyaluronic acid and coconut oil, it both nourishes and hydrates. It is perfectly suitable for sensitive skin. If you prefer a lighter texture because your skin is more combination or even oily, the plumping serum with polyglutamic acid and red algae extract smooths dehydration fine lines and plumps the skin. Polyglutamic acid is composed of macromolecules that create a protective film on the skin surface for prolonged hydration.
