Tip #1: Shape your eyebrows.

The first step to achieving perfect eyebrows and a flawless shape is hair removal. We recommend respecting the natural shape of your eyebrows and making sure to maintain greater thickness in the section covering the inner corner of the eye. When it comes to hair removal, it can also be wise not to give in too easily to new trends, as they are very short-lived, whereas rebuilding an eyebrow line can be long and difficult. Finally, prioritize removing hair from the lower part of your eyebrows, since the upper part is harder to work on and may lead to gaps in your brow line.

Tweezers, threading, or waxing—you have a wide range of options for performing your hair removal. However, we recommend using tweezers, especially if you are a beginner. This is in fact the simplest tool to handle and the most precise. Take your time when plucking your eyebrows and be sure before removing a hair. It is better to have one hair “too many” than to end up with gaps in your eyebrows. If you do not feel confident, you can go to an esthetician. They can also advise you if you are uncertain about the shape of your eyebrows.

Tip #2: Focus on eyebrow makeup.

Many people opt for makeup to enhance their eyebrows. Today, there is a wide variety of products and shades available for this purpose. Whether you want a natural result or prefer to add a bit of flair to your eyebrows, you are sure to find a makeup style that suits you. Pencil, mascara, gel, powder... the possibilities are numerous.

One of the main reasons people turn to eyebrow makeup is to fill in sparse areas. To do this, using a pencil is recommended. It is applied directly to the skin to create an optical illusion. For a natural result, try to match your eyebrow color as closely as possible. If you are hesitating between two shades, we recommend choosing the lighter one. You can then complete your makeup by using an eyebrow mascara, which has a setting effect and adds volume.

In practice, these products are often used together: a pencil to define structure, a powder to soften, then a gel to set.

You can also, if you wish, use semi-permanent makeup. The most commonly used methods are microblading and microshading. Microblading involves depositing pigment in the epidermis with a needle in order to imitate eyebrow hairs. This procedure is usually carried out in two sessions spaced a few weeks apart. The results can last for about a year and a half without the need for additional touch-ups. Microshading uses a similar technique, but aims to create a shaded effect behind the eyebrows. It is generally better tolerated by sensitive skin because, instead of drawing strokes to mimic hairs, only small dots are applied.

Tip #3: Work on styling and setting your eyebrows.

Styling the eyebrows is a step that is often underestimated, even though it alone can transform their appearance. In fact, the orientation of the hairs directly influences how we perceive their density, symmetry, and the overall structure of the gaze. Eyebrows brushed upward will, for example, appear fuller and create a more open look, while brushing them in a more horizontal or structured way will produce a cleaner, more defined result.

Biologically, each eyebrow hair grows at a specific angle determined by how the hair follicle is implanted. Over time, friction, sebum, and moisture can temporarily alter this orientation, making the eyebrows harder to manage. Grooming therefore helps reorganize the hairs at the surface without directly affecting their growth, but by optimizing their arrangement.

To achieve this, different products can be used. Setting gels, whether clear or tinted, are the most common: they coat the hair with a thin film that stiffens its structure and maintains its position. Styling waxes provide a stronger hold, particularly useful for thick or unruly hairs. These products rely on film-forming agents that increase cohesion between the hairs and stabilize their orientation.

In all cases, the goal is to work with the eyebrow’s natural shape, enhancing its lines without constraining it.

Tip #4: Try “brow lamination” for fuller, more voluminous eyebrows.

This non-invasive eyebrow restructuring technique is intended for people who want to enhance the thickness of their eyebrows. Brow lamination is usually performed in a salon, although more and more at-home kits are being developed. First, the eyebrows are given a new shape by brushing the hairs upward and setting them in place with a suitable adhesive. A lifting balm is then applied to soften and relax the hair, allowing it to be oriented in the desired direction. Next, the eyebrows are coated with a treatment enriched with keratin. At this stage, it is also possible to apply a dye to intensify the color of the eyebrows. Finally, the hairs are brushed, and a hydrating serum is applied.

The result is fuller, more defined, and more uniform eyebrows, without adding any pigment to the skin.

Tip #5: Tint your eyebrows to intensify your gaze.

Eyebrow tinting is an interesting option for people who want to enhance their eyes without daily makeup. It darkens the hairs, including the finest or lightest ones, which immediately creates an impression of fullness. Some techniques, such as henna, can also slightly stain the skin beneath the eyebrows, amplifying the filling effect. However, the result is temporary (a few weeks) and gradually fades over time.

Eyebrow tinting is particularly useful for people whose eyebrows are very light or barely visible.

Tip #6: Support eyebrow growth.

Certain interventional approaches aim to act more directly on the microenvironment of the hair follicle. Eyebrow mesotherapy involves injecting, at a shallow depth, cocktails of active substances such as vitamins, amino acids, trace elements, or growth factors. The goal is to locally deliver substrates and biological signals that may support follicular activity, particularly at the level of the dermal papilla, the vascularized portion of the hair follicle. These injections could promote proliferation of bulb keratinocytes, improve local blood supply, and strengthen the anchoring of the hair shaft.

Certain clinical studies report an improvement in the density and appearance of the eyebrows after several sessions spaced a few weeks apart. The photo below is a direct illustration of this. It comes from a study conducted with 32 women who received three mesotherapy sessions spaced two to four weeks apart. The serum used contained growth factors, and the results showed an overall improvement in eyebrow appearance, with an average satisfaction score above 8/10 and more than 90% of participants reporting being satisfied and willing to continue the protocol.

However, these results are based mainly on small sample sizes, without a control group, and should therefore be interpreted with caution.

Microneedling is based on a different, yet complementary, principle. This technique uses fine needles to create controlled micro-perforations in the skin, triggering a tissue repair response. This process is accompanied by the release of growth factors such as VEGF, stimulation of microcirculation, and activation of fibroblasts, all of which help remodel the skin’s microenvironment. At the follicular level, these signals may promote entry into the anagen phase and support the cellular activity required for hair production. In addition, microneedling can enhance the penetration of active compounds applied afterward by facilitating their diffusion through the skin barrier. As with mesotherapy, data specific to the eyebrows remain limited and are largely extrapolated from studies conducted on the scalp, which calls for caution regarding the magnitude of the expected effects.

Tip #7: Use eyebrow-specific care products.

To enhance your eyebrows, you should not neglect their maintenance. Just like the lips, face, and body, the eyebrow area benefits from a tailored routine. A gentle scrub once a week can be useful : it helps remove excess dead cells on the skin surface, reduce blockage of the follicular opening, and promote more regular hair emergence. By decreasing the buildup of corneocytes and residues such as sebum and makeup, this step also helps lower the risk of ingrown hairs. However, it is important to choose a very gentle exfoliation so as not to weaken this particularly thin area.

Additionally, the regular application of a strengthening serum, particularly one rich in plant oils, can improve the appearance of the eyebrows. These oils, composed of fatty acids and lipophilic compounds, have an essentially conditioning effect: they coat the hair shaft, limit its dehydration, and improve its flexibility, which can reduce breakage and create the impression of increased density. Application can be done with a clean brush to ensure the product is evenly distributed over all the hairs. It is important to maintain good hygiene of this tool and to ensure proper storage of the plant oils, in a tightly closed bottle protected from heat and light, as they are sensitive to oxidation. This helps prevent product degradation and bacterial contamination.

FAQ on eyebrow enhancement techniques.

How to choose the right eyebrow shape for your face?

It is often said that the shape of the eyebrows should be adapted to the proportions of the face: a soft arch to soften a square face, a more structured one for a round face. The goal is to balance facial volumes without making the features appear harsher. This is, of course, mostly theoretical: the shape of our eyebrows is largely determined by the natural curve of our brow bone.

What eyebrow makeup color should you choose?

It is recommended to choose a shade close to that of the natural hairs or slightly lighter. A color that is too dark can harden the gaze and produce a less natural result.

How can you give your eyebrows a fuller look without makeup?

A simple upward brushing combined with a clear setting gel can create the illusion of eyebrows that appear fuller.

How can eyebrow asymmetry be corrected?

Subtle adjustments in makeup can help rebalance an asymmetrical eyebrow line.

Is brow lamination suitable for all eyebrow types?

This technique is particularly suitable for unruly or sparse eyebrows. On very thin eyebrows, the result may be more subtle.

What is the most common mistake people make when doing their eyebrow makeup?

The most common mistake is making the eyebrows too dark or drawing a line that is too sharp. This can freeze facial expression and produce an unnatural result.
