The Damask rose is a plant derived from the wild rose Rosa canina. Originating from Persia, this flower is now found in several countries such as Syria, Morocco, Bulgaria, and Turkey. Since the Middle Ages, the petals of this flower have been used in the preparation of ointments and other skin remedies. To obtain the Damask rose hydrosol and essential oil, the petals undergo a double steam distillation process. The yield is low, hence its high price.
Damask rose essential oil is obtained after distilling approximately five tons of petals, which equates to 3 to 4 million flowers.
In skincare, Damask rose essential oil is referenced under the I.N.C.I. designation "Rosa Damascena Flower Oil". It is an ally for skin showing signs of aging due to its regenerative action and its antioxidant properties, it helps to limit premature cell aging, and brings radiance and brightness to the complexion.
