OILY SKIN: WHICH SKINCARE PRODUCTS SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Oily skin is caused by excess sebum. Sebum is secreted by the sebaceous glands to create a lipidic film that protects your skin but, when too much is produced, your skin gets shiny, and blocked pores can lead to imperfections. Discover our suggested skincare routine for oily skin.

How to know if you have oily skin

Oily skin is generally quite shiny, caused by excess sebum production. Sebum is secreted by the sebaceous glands, and contributes to your skin’s natural protection. However, in large quantities, it can create a breeding ground for blackheads and spots, leaving your skin looking dry and thickened, your skin tone uneven and your pores visible and dilated. If this sounds like your skin, you probably have oily skin, but don’t worry! A targeted skincare routine can help you rebalance your skin to get it back to full health.

How to look after oily skin

We advise choosing skincare products which contain purifying, mattifying and astringent ingredients, like azelaic acid, AHAs (glycolic acid, lactic acid, etc…), BHAs (salicylic acid, etc…), niacinamide, zinc-PCA, etc… There are several essential steps to take to purify oily skin.

Remove your makeup every evening

No matter what your skin type, taking off your makeup is an essential step. Apply our makeup remover oil directly to your skin, until your makeup has completely disappeared. Finish this step with our 7-ingredient micellar water.

Cleanse your skin daily

Wash your skin with a gentle cleanser that respects your skin’s natural balance (without alcohol or perfume). Otherwise, your skin will start to react by producing more sebum. Try our rebalancing cleansing bar with nettle, which is artisanally produced in France and 100% natural. It’s cold-saponified, and made with eucalyptus essential oil and nettle powder. You could also try our purifying cleansing gel, which is packed with purifying ingredients like zinc PCA to deeply cleanse your skin, regulate sebum production and reduce the appearance of imperfections. Next, apply our peppermint hydrolate to rebalance your skin’s pH. Please note, for oily skin it is only recommended to use a cleansing gel in the evening so as not to stimulate sebum production. In the morning, just use a hydrolate to purify your skin.

Use targeted products

Start by applying our mattifying serum, which contains a high concentration of azelaic acid. It helps to regulate sebum production to mattify your skin. Contrary to popular belief, don’t neglect daily hydration. Try our purifying moisturizer, which is enriched with sebum-regulating and antibacterial ingredients like zinc PCA, to purify your skin and tackle skin imperfections.

Exfoliate your skin daily

Our exfoliating serum with glycolic acid helps to get rid of excess sebum to leave your complexion smooth and even. Use it in the evening only, and do not rinse it off! At first you may experience mild redness, as your skin gets used to this ingredient, but this will stop after a few uses. However, it is not advised for those with sensitive skin.

Use face masks

Use our purifying mask with charcoal and green clay, which has a clay-like texture, once or twice a week on clean and dry skin to regulate your sebum production and cleanse blocked pores.
